    Hello Vargis,

I am planing to do solo trip to Leh - Ladakh in April/May - 2018.

I have plan to fly to Delhi from Bangalore and then take a car on rent for 9 days.

I have a plan to take Ford Ecosport or Maruti Swift to complete the trip. Is it ok if choose Ecosport/Swift or any hatchback for tough roads? Please advise me.

    Below is the itinerary:-

Day 1 - New Delhi to Jammu - 600 Kms - Is it doable in one go?
    Day 2 - Jammu to Srinagar - 300 Kms
Day 3 - Srinagar to Kargil via sonmarg/drass/Zojila - 200 kms - planing to stay in Kargil? Is it ok?
Day 4 - Kargil to Leh - 200 Kms - I think doable. - Planing to stay in Leh.
Day 5 - Leh to Nubra Valley Via Khurdlung La/Sand Dunes - Planing to stay in Nubra Valley
Day 6 - I would like to visit Pangong lake , but I feel Wari La route is very tough and also deserted. In case of breakdown, help is also very limited. Could you please suggest any other alternate route? I will halt in Pangong.
Day 7 - Pangong Tso to Leh - 150 Kms - I will have overnight stay.
Day 8/9- Leh - Manali - 470 ms - Please advise where I can break the journey.
Day 10 - Manali to Delhi - 580 kms - End the trip and catch a flight to Bangalore.

In case, If I get a travel partner I am also fine.

Please let me know if this itinerary is fine and alternate route to Pangong Lake which is safe and frequently used route.

    Your suggestion is highly appreciated.

Hello Prash - In case of vehicle, definitely go for an Ecosport rather than Swift. But you must know that any car rented from Delhi will not be allowed for sightseeing in Ladakh. You can only use it to reach Leh but for visiting Pangong and Nubra, you will need to make other arrangements in Leh and leave your Ecosport parked at the hotel.

    As for your itinerary,

    Day 1 - OK. Doable.
    Day 2 - OK
Day 3 - OK. You can stay at Kargil
    Day 4 - OK. Doable.

You will now have to add a day here. Stay at Leh and use this day for 1. arranging permits to visit Nubra and Pangong 2. Make other arrangements to travel to these places

    Day 6 - OK
Day 7 - You can take the Agham Shyok road to travel from Nubra to Pangong
    Day 8 - OK
Day 9 - Leh to Sarchu
Day 10 - Sarchu to Manali
Day 11 - Manali to Delhi

    Thanks for the reply.

Is the information correct regarding the local taxi drivers not allowing self driven cars in Ladakh region?

Also, Nubra valley and Pangong Lake is far from Leh, so please confirm whether I can take self driven cars to NubraValley & Pangong Lake?

Yes the information is correct. You cannot take self driven "rentals" to Ladakh but you can if it is your own car.

The restriction applies for Nubra and Pangong. You can take it to Leh but no further. They have barricades put up on the way to stop and check
