It is quite safe to go. You just have to be careful yourself. The incident last week that got 1 tourist killed was an unfortunate one but as per the locals. it was the mistake of the driver. They knew that stone pelting was going on in the area ahead and were advised to stop and not try to pass through until everything was back under control. The passengers urged the driver to go on still and he did. As a result, they got caught up in the pelting and a tourist got killed because of head injury after getting hit by a stone. Just do not take any such unnecessary risks and you are OK.

thanks for the prompt reply vargis. as we have planned to do hanle and tso moriri . do you think we should cover padum also. we just have 2 days for it. going and coming back. if the beauty of the way is too good then only we were thinking of adding it in our itinerary. please guide.
    2. i have heard that leh to sarchu is very beatiful and not to be missed. but as i have planned to go tso moriri, the shortest route is from tso kar to sarchu. so should we take this route or we should go to upshi or leh and then to sarchu to enjoy that beauty.

    1. Permits for Hanle are under question right now so you may not get those, depends on your luck really. You will definitely not get the permits for Chushul as of the situation right now so will have to come back to Leh from Pangong. Kargil to Padum is indeed a very scenic drive and yes, if you have 2 days to spare for it then do it.

    2. Nothing spectacular between Leh and Sarchu. Do Tso Moriri to Pang to Sarchu via Tso Kar, it is even better.

Thks again for the prompt reply Vargis. you won't believe after going through blogs, forum answers i have got huge trust on your recommendations.
please guide me with the following 2-3 questions more.
    1. earlier we didn't added padum but now if we plan padum then the itinerary is delhi-patnitop-sonmarg-kargil-padum-kargil-leh-leh-hunder-day trip to turtuk(night at diskit)-leh-pangong-leh-hanle-tsomoriri-sarchu-manali-delhi. but we have limited time and now we need to reduce 1 day. now if we dont get hanle permit then its reduced by itself . but if we get hanle permit then where should we reduce one day. should we reduce one day of sonamarg and do patnitop - kargil straight starting at 4am in the morning. and then also we will be having one day going to padum and one day coming back from padum to kargil.
    2. we have one innova cysta automatic and one tata hexa. just wanted your feedback on these cars.
    3. as the trip is very unpredictable we have not booked any accommodation. so are we right on our this decision to see and take hotels there and then. we are 2 family with 3 kids(12yr,10yr,8yr) and a driver.
    4. what is there for drivers in this trip. do we have to take accommodations there . as my driver is okay in sleeping in the car. but is it okay to sleep in the car there in leh ladakh region.
    5. last option , if we plan it through manali then is it better decision then going from srinagar and how do we get online permit without wasting one day in manali for it.
it seems that i am asking too much but your guidance is much needed here. thks again in advance.

    Hi Amit,

    1. You can save a day by going straight to Turtuk from Leh. Just start by first light of the day from Leh to get there in time.
    2. Both are good cars for the trip. The low 176MM GC of Innova can be a bit of problem but nothing that would bother much.
3, No need to book accommodation anywhere. Just reach the spot, find a hotel per your liking and negotiate an on the spot deal.
    4. I would not recommend letting him sleep in the car. It gets extremely cold at nights, temperature almost touches zero. I will let you be the judge on this Bhai.
    5. If you go via Manali then yes, the hassle of Rohtang Permits will stand and you may even have to waste a day for it in Manali.

    thks for your reply .
    1. but you didn't mention anything about my 2 days for padum. one day going and one day coming back. i have read some people doing it in 2 days itself. we are also short of time as i have mentioned earlier. but i have also read that we need atleast 1 day rest when we ascend 3000 ft in a day. now as padum is 12000 ft so we need a halt of one night or 2 nights.
    2. while coming back from sarchu to manali , its tuesday . will we be allowed to come down to manali on tuesday or not. how to do it as there is no alternative i am able to think off as i am already late and have to reach delhi for my kids school already opened.
    3. inner line permit. :1) can we get inner line permit on sat and sundays. 2) can we apply for these permit online frm delhi itself.
    have got one website
    http://lahdclehpermit.in/circuitdir.php?ref=DirectTLE1041946
    it says :
    CHOOSE THE CIRCUIT:

    * There is no reissue option for direct Tourist, kindly select all the circuits that are going to visit at once.
    Id Circuit Name Select
1 Khalsi,Domkhar, Skurbuchan, Hanu, Baima, Dha in Khalsi Sub-Division.
2 Khardong, Khalsar, Trith upto Warsi and Yarma Gonbo, Disket, Hunder, Turtuk, Pachathang, Tyakshi in Nubra Sub-Division.
    3 Upshi, TsomoRiRi/Korzok in Nyoma Sub-Division.
4 Upshi, Dipling, Puga, TsomoRiRi/Korzok in Nyoma Sub-Division.
5 Kharu, Changla, Durbuk, Tangtse, Lukhung, Spangmik, Man-merag(Pangong Lake) in Nyoma Sub-Division.
6 Upshi, Chumathang, Mahe, Loma Bend in Nyoma Division.
7 Leh-Kharu-Changla-Durbuk-Tangtse-Lukung-Spangmik-Man Merak (pangong) upto Chushul and Loma Bend.
    8 Tangtse-Kargyam-Sato, Barma, Chushul.

should i apply online or should i take it from leh itself.

now as i have mentioned to you before also i want to do
    nubra/turtuk/panamik/pangong lake/spagmik/chushul/hanle/tsomoriri lake/tso kar/sarchu.

now please guide me which all permits should i apply number wise. as it says i can apply only once and can't change them.

secondly please let me know as i have 2 cars , 5 adults ,3 child below 12year. there is a option of apply for group . should i opt that category or should we both apply individually.

    4. can we share your WhatsApp number if you dont mind as that will be quick in case of any emergency.

    5. one of my freind is there in leh and he has done nubra to pangong directly instead of leh -nubra-leh-pangong-leh. but the road were very bad . can we also do it as we are also running less of time .

    6. petrol: if we get permit of hanle then we will be doing 1000km from pangong to tandi via hanle /tsomoriri so we need approx 50 ltr petrol extra. now my concern is should we keep 20 ltr bisleri jar or we should buy petrol in black totally. as keeping so much petrol in car will be safe. (i doubt).

please guide me once again will all these quires.

    thks
