Iterinary for Delhi-Srinagar-Leh-Nubra-Pangong-Tso Moriri-Manali-Delhi: 14 days bike trip

  1. Hello All,

We are 2 boys planning for a ladakh trip in own bikes without having preplanned itinerary of any traveling community or tour operators.

How risky it is to go with our own plans- without prior hotel booking in places like Nubra, Pangong, Tso Moriri, Jispa, Sarchu; without any backup vehicles for you; look to get Inner line permits on your own; carry some basic spare parts for your bike with knowledge to repair.

Also, through all my research I can see Pangong and Tso Moriri are all located in a diversion (Tso Moriri-diversion at Moore and Pangong- diversion at Upshi) along the main Manali- Leh highway. If that is the case, can we cover those places without actually reaching Leh city which would also save some days for me. I am also aware that these places need Inner Line Permits to travel. Is it like just to get these permits, people reach Leh first and travel to these places or can we get these permits in Manali only along with the Rohtang pass permit. Answer to the above questions will help me to decide which route to take first- Srinagar route or Manali route from Dehi.

I really wanted to do this trip on my own without any pre-bookings. How much feasible is that? Request your kind reply.

I have always traveled to Ladakh in the manner you suggested. No advance booking, no back up vehicle, not even a luggage carrier. Just one bag roped on the motorcycle, fuel in pepsi bottles and always looked for the hotel upon arrival. So to answer you question, yes a trip can be done that way by my own experience. However, do keep an itinerary planned. That is one thing that you must have beforehand, a well laid out itienrary.

And no, you cannot cover Pangong or Moriri without going to Leh first. Inner Line Permit is needed for going this way and you must first reach Leh to get this permit.
