    Hello friends,

We are three friends planning for Spiti circuit from Delhi on two RE classic 350 from 5th to 12th Oct. ( one fatty as Pillion) I have obligation to join new office by 14th Oct so have to be back in 8 days. I know based on my last time experience that these are not enough days to cover everything. Hence need your help to review below itinerary and advice if this looks feasible.

Last time I went via Shimla and came back via Manali. Going over the dreadful Kaza to Manali road towards end of trip is what I want to avoid. Hence hoping to go to Manali first and return via Shimla this time.

    Day 1 - Delhi - Manali
    Day 2 - Manali - Chandratal ( 140k - 5hrs ride , stay at Chandratal camp )
Day 3 - Chandratal - losar, Kaza, ( visiting )ki Kibber, Gette, Tashigang ( 106 km - 7/8hrs ride including stops)
    Day 4 - Kaza - Pin Valley (mud) - Kaza (110 kms - 6-7hrs including stops )
    Day 5 - Kaza - langza - Komik - Hikkim - Kaza- Tabo ( 94 kms - 6-7 hrs including stops )
    Day 6 - Tabo - Chitkul ( leave early - 200 kms - 8 hrs )
    Day 7 - Chitkul - Narkanda ( 182 kms - 7 hrs )
    Day 8 - Shimla - Delhi

1)Do you this is doable or have I stretched it too much? Also I have few questions if you could help with these

    2) We will reach Manali on Day 1 in evening Saturday. Will we be able to get Inner Line permit the same day and leave early morning Sunday for Chandratal ?
    3) After Manali, next petrol pump is Kaza I think. Do you think we will be able to reach Kaza( 250-270kms ride ) on RE classic 350 tanks full. I have not ridden RE on hills hence not sure what average it will give.
    4) Will the Fatty Pillion and the Bike survive the Manali to Kaza stretch ? :)
    5) Should we stay at Pin valley( Mud) on Day 4 instead of Kaza.
    6) I have excluded the Demul on Day5, do you think it is worth the visit and probably stay in Demul instead of Tabo.
    7) My friend suggested that roads from Kaza to Shimla have improved compared to 4 yrs back when I visited. He suggested we should be able to reach Tabo to Chitkul in 6-7 hrs. (Day 6) Is that really true?
8)Any other Thoughts, opinions , suggestions.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Sunny,

    1. Yes
    2. No permit after 3 PM and on Sundays
    3. Yes
    4. Yes
    5. Yes, it is better that way
    6. Keep the itinerary the way it is. Go to Tabo.
    7. 8 Hours
    8. Do not delay it any further. Going via Manali is a wise choice coz its late in the season. It has already started to snow at Rohtang, Kunzum and Chandratal so prepare accordingly.

Thanks @Vargis Khan for quick replies. Great Help. I am happy you agree I should take manali route.

Sorry to take your more time, but couple of up follow up questions :

    1) Rohtang permit is available online ,but there are 3 categories - Rohtang pass, special Rohtang Pass and Beyond Rohtang. Only Beyond Rohtang has Motorbikes has a category. Is this the one we need to purchase for going to Spiti?
    2) Also if get this permit online, then can we directly approach Rohtang on Sunday, or is there any stamping required in Manali.
    3) Like you said it already started snowing in Rohtang, kunzum,Will there be camps available or removed in Chandratal. Any contact number for preffered camp owner, we could pre book.

    Thanks Again,
    Sunny Kasturia

    Hi Sunny

    1. Yes, that is the one
    2. Yes you can. No stamping required.
    3. Look for Jamaica's camps there, he is a friend of mine and I know he will be there till 10th of October. Cannot say anything about the others.

Manali to chandratal camp will take 6-8 hours. Road condition is too bad. Try to start early in the morning.

And do take some food with you.

    Hi

We are planning for Spiti trip starting Oct 03rd from Delhi. Do u think it would be viable to complete the Spiti circuit starting from Shimla & ending at Manali. We want to cover most of the places here, no time constraints.

Also wanted to know would it be possible to cover Chandratal Lake during our trip. Would there be camps set up until Oct 15th.

Or should we visit Chandratal from Kaza skipping few places & then head back to Kaza to cover the remaining places there.

    Please reply. Thank you

Chandratal will be open till Oct 10. After that it depends on climate. So plan accordingly
