Thanks Joydeb Bhai
Then we are both Nikon users Bhai, I have a D7000. Waiting to see some more pictures and to read about your experience
Fantastic Vargis sir, i will follow the same itinrary , i had one question regarding family members. Is it safe for parents ( age 60 and 60+) to travel along the lahual spiti circuit???
Bhai as long as there is no medical condition involved and you are starting from Shimla side then yes it is OK to bring them to Spiti.
We are a group of 5/6 friends who would be completing our Hampta Pass Trek on 17th August in Manali. Post that we have time till 22nd when we have our return flight from Delhi. I was thinking of visiting Spiti valley and came across a few blogs of yours. I wanted to understand from you what type of an itinerary can we follow, what all can we cover, and also where can we arrange for an Innova or some other SUV for either Manali to Manali or Manali to Shimla ending on 21st.
Hi Akhil - I would not recommend Manali to Shimla since you only have 5 days. I will suggest that you rent a taxi or motorcycles from Manali, visit Spiti, circle back to Manali and then take a bus from there for Delhi.
Itinerary can be,
17 - Manali
18 - Manali to Kaza
19 - Start early. Ride or drive all the way to Nako. Start driving back to Kaza. Visit Dhankar and Tabo Monastery on the way. Trek to Dhankar Lake as well if you wish to but it will take you two hours. Take the road to Pin Valley. Drive all the way till Mud Village. Start back to Kaza and reach by evening.
20 - Kaza to Chandratal
21 - Chandratal to Manali
22 - Manali to Delhi
If you wish to rent a bike from Manali, talk to Parvez at 9318646559. I do not know any taxi drivers in Manali but talk to Parvez. He lives in Manali and runs his bike rental business. He may know a taxi driver he can recommend there.
If that doesn't work out then talk to Jamaica. He runs a campsite at Chandratal and may recommend a taxi driver. You can also stay at his camps at Chandratal. 9418200183.
If that also did not work then talk to Tanzin in Kaza @ 9418927312. He runs a hotel in Spiti by the name of Hotel Spiti Valley. You can also stay at his hotel there. He may recommend a good cab driver.
Thanks for the informative message. We were also thinking of directly starting from Chhatru, as there is no point tonight back to Manali after the trek. So, probably we can start on 16th from Chhatru towards Kaza/Chandertaal. Can we catch the Manali-Kaza HRTC bus? And then hire a cab or rent bikes from Kaza for the next 4-5 days?
Yes you can start from Chhatru as well and if you made it before the bus then you can board it to reach Kaza. If not, then you will definitely find a shared cab.
I too have a similar query.
