If you were planning a winter trip to Spiti this year, there may be bad news for you. There has been very little snow this year all across the region. Shimla and Manali have not seen any snow at all so far and Kaza has seen very little. Though the temperature continues to dip. Shimla and Manali remain close to 0 at nights while Kaza dips down to -20 at night and -10 at noon. If snow was on your mind, you will not find any as of now until Kaza and a little at or after Kaza towards Kunzum or Kibber / Kaumik.

The long dry spell this winter finally broke this week with entire Himachal receiving snow all around. Keylong was coldest in the region with minimum temperature settling at -5.8 degrees C, Kalpa -3 degrees and Manali -0.6 degrees. The thick sheet of snow however is mostly limited in the valleys around Shimla, Kufri, Narkanda and Manali. Spiti valley continues to remain dry still as Kaza did not receive much snow still.

Hey..I am planning to travel to Spiti valley at the end of march around 20th. Are there hrtc buses available at that point because I will be using them only or hitchhiking whenever required. Will it be possible for me? I have seen in various articles that the Shimla to Spiti road remains open all round the year. Please help me out with this with some additional details if you can provide. I am planning a trip of 11-12 days plus 2 buffer days as there are chances of getting road blocked and I might get stuck at some place for a day or two due to snowfall.

Yes the Shimla to Kaza bus will be available at that time. There is almost no snow anywhere this year so the bus service is still running. Apart from the bus, you can also easily get the shared taxis that locals use.

Hi Vargis! We want to do a trip to spiti from Shimla and have a window of 14 days from 19th may to 2 june. I have heard that Kunzum pass is closed at this time, but is there any way to complete the full spiti circuit in this time? Atleast Chandratal is an important place that we would want to visit.
PS - Cannot postpone the trip dates are fixed.
    Thanks a lot!

Hi Rajas - There hasn't been any snow at all in Spiti so far, entire region is running completely dry so yes, there is a high possibility that both Kunzum and Chandratal will be open around your dates of travel. Rest it all depends on the weather
