    Thanks Tarun.

    The bus service usually gets suspended by mid-September, that is normal. Roads are open for private vehicles though and you will be able to complete the trip. Even camping at Chandratal will remain open till October 10th.

    Hi Vargis,

    I am planning a trip to Spiti Valley with my Family in a Tempo Traveller during October from Shimla Kinnaur side towards Kaza and then cross the 2 passes to enter manali. We will be crossing the Kunzum pass on 19th of October. I am in touch with the local travel agent he says that Kunzum pass remains open for private vehicle till October end. Still I have planned it 10 days before the specified time (July - October)- Could you please guide me if the travel agents claims are true?, because many are saying that Kunzum closes around 15th of October. The Chandratal tent services also close around 15th (I had given a call to them). is 19th October going to be risky? this year 2018, as there was hardly snow last year, so chances of snow increases every alternative year.

    It will be very helpful for our family if you could give us an idea about the road situations in the second half of October (near the closing window
    )

  5. Hi Vargis,

    I am planning a solo trip to Spiti Valley during September from Manali to Kaza

    I will be in Manali on 27th Morning around 6am.
    Do you recommend a bike trip or a bus trip for a first timer to North and unaware of the Himalayan road

    Hi Vargis,

    Unusual last few days for Himachal!

    Our plan continues as earlier to start on 5th Oct to go Spiti via Shimla-Kinnaur route in our own cars. Considering the status of Kunzum la and Rohtang la and state of road from Manali to Kaza, we have decided to skip that stretch altogether and return via the Shimla-Kinnaur route.

    Can you opine on our plan, and also on the state of the Shimla to Kaza road. Whether it has got re-opened (heard it was supposed to by now) and how bad a beating it has taken. Also if you are aware of how are the offshoot roads which take off from the main Shimla-Kaza highway are doing viz. Chitkul road, Kalpa road, Dhankar road, Langza/Komic/Hikkim road.

    Look forward eagerly to your inputs!

    Thanks.

    Hi Tarun - Shimla to Kaza is open but in a terrible condition at some places. Manali to Kaza is closed and no ETA on by when it will be all cleared. Chandratal too is closed. My suggestion would be that you make two itineraries. If Manali Kaza is open then complete the circuit, if not then return to Shimla

    There is a western disturbance expected to reach Ladakh area around 9th October. Might bring fresh snowfall in the higher region and passes.
