    Mr. Vargis,

    Hi....

Myself Anees from Chennai. First I would like to thank you for the efforts you have taken in detailing about ladakh. Hatts off to you.I have planned a trip to ladakh during may of the year. I am 44 years old and i am travelling with my family. The family details are as follows : Myself / Mother (62 years) / Wife / Daughter (10 years)/ Brother.

The tour Date is 20.07.2018 to 25.07.2018. 26th morning return flight.

The following is my planned itinerary :

Day 1: Arrive to leh by flight . stay in leh for half a day and move to kargil to stay at night.
Day 2: Kargil to drang drung glacier and return to leh same day and stay.
    day 3: leh to nubra
    Day 4: Nubra to leh
Day 5: leh to pangong to leh same day

The reason behind above plan is that my daughter want to see more snow place as we could not see any snow in chennai. Also, staying in kargil for the first day will reduce AMS. Suggest.

Can we see lot of snow during our travel to drung glacier from kargil ?

Please give your opinion on the above itinerary and you are free to suggest changes.

    Expecting your earliest reply.

    Thanks & Regards

    S. Anees

Dear Anees ( hope it is the same anees who i had replied earlier for some other query )
    anyhow here are my inputs.
your travel period - july end is the peak tourist traffic season. weather chart predicts shower and thunderstorm during your travel period. pl ensure. predictions are not accurate, it may go wrong also dont worry but ladakh weather is notorious for its unpredictability.
kargil is overpriced and overrated. being the exact middle between srinagar and leh - with full of traffic and peak touristy season
For Nubra and Pangong you have to get ILP on hand. you may get it on the day of arrival which takes your precious time to reach kargil. Your mail coordination with taxi drivers with required document submission with additional commission may get it done before you reach Leh. Zanskar (D D Glacier) requires No ILP
Day 1 : because of the peak toruist season and traffic you may reach kargil only at night. pl consider your mother health and her strenuous journey apart from the midnight flight from chennai to reach leh in early morning. going from leh (higher altitude) to kargil (lower altitude) is ok to combat AMS but pl keep in mind you have to cross the highest pass enroute the Fotu La and Namika La apart from Hangro Loops near Lamayuru. all these may take its toll.
Day 2 : Not at all possible to cover in a single day. Kargil - Sankoo - Purtikchey - Parkachik - Panikhar - NunKun massif view - Rangdum - Pensi la Top -- Drang Drung Glacier view -- one way is approx 150 kms so kargil to kargil itself 300 kms + 220 kms to leh total 520 kms on day 2 that too on hilly passes and untarred roads.
Day 5 : possible if started very early in the morning at leh - return late night to leh. but night stay at pangong tso is a worthy experience esply starry nights and chill weather
Snow in July end : is possible mainly at Sonmarg ( srinagar - kargil route ) and also at Rohthang Pass / Barla Cha La / Sarchu on the manali route. yes there may be snow at Nun-Kun Massiff and Drang Drung Glacier in the Zanskar valley but rains may play spoilsport. if your daughter expects wall height snow on both sides with cab in the middle as in postcard pic of ladakh, most of that would have been shot at sonmarg only.

I am not here to terrify you with my inputs but a word of caution as you are going with age-old mother and a cute little daughter. dont jampack everything in a single day as we do for ooty or kodai. ladakh is almost a once in a life time journey for us. enjoying the drive itself is a better thing to enjoy ladakh. added bonus is visiting the scenic spots.
best wishes for a happy and safe journey ( dont make it as a strenuous one )
