As of now, Manual Permits will be issued from SDM Office in Manali for tourist planning to go Leh Ladakh.

After a few days, travelers can take an Online Permit

    Hi All,
Writing this post from Leh. Reached Solang on 4th June and crossed Rohtang pass on 7th June. Huge traffic jams at Rohtang. It took us 6 hours from Solang to reach Rohtang top (even when we started early morning). In fact, from Manali entry point we took 2.5 hours to reach Solang (14.3 kms).

We stayed in Jispa from 7th-9th. It was expected that Baralacha La would open by 8th, but there was no official communication till 9th afternoon. We decided to visit Baralacha on 10th and make an attempt to cross it. If unable to cross, we would return to Jispa and wait for another couple of days.

There is plenty of snow and ICE on road at Baralacha La. We found couple of cars stuck due to ice on road before Baralacha La. For a 4WD, passing through the icy patches is easy. However, 2WD vehicle might face slipping issues. If there are tyre marks already made by a previous vehicle, that should help 2WD cars to pass easily. The snow/ICE patches are for a stretch of 1.5-2kms. After that, it's mostly dry and clean roads (some patches of bad roads). Reached Leh on 10th evening (around 5 PM).

Biking not recommended from my side till 16th June.

Posting couple of pictures from my trip.

Pic1 - First snow stretch at Baralacha La where 2 vehicles (1 2WD Scorpio and 1 Mercedes GLA 250 were stuck). Had to break ICE on road for them to pass.
Pic 2 & 3 - ICE stretches, where I took the lead and other 2 vehicles followed the tyre marks and were able to pass through.

Thanks so much for sharing this Vibhor Bhai. Did you face any problem getting Rohtang permits?

@Vargis Khan bhai - YES! Getting Beyond Rohtang permit from SDM office was pretty chaotic. The counter didn't open till 12.30 and then too they already had a huge backlog of applications for 'Beyond Rohtang' permit. I got in line at 10.30 AM and managed to get the permit by 2.15 PM.

Documents necessary for 'Beyond Rohtang' permit:

    - Vehicle RC copy
    - Valid PUC copy
    - Driving License copy
    - Hotel booking voucher original/copy (Hotels/camps in Sissu, Keylong, Jispa or any other location beyond Rohtang towards Leh).
    - Undertaking form [available at SDM office from counters/kiosks of stamp vendors]

All documents should be neatly stapled. There were few folks who didn't staple the documents and various documents kept falling apart and lost in the mess.

    @Vargis Khan @Surya
I am doing the manali-leh route from 29th of this month. Do you think the roads would normalize by this date?
