You cannot travel Manali to Leh in April Guna. The road won't open before mid May
This time opening of Rohtang and other passes could be further delayed till first week of June.
Ok sir thank you. Please suggest us for right time?
Plan sometime between June till September please.
The snowfall continues across the entire Himalayan region triggering avalanches at several places, specially in the snow-covered valley of Lahaul. The petrol pump at Tandi along with a hot mix plant of a road construction company were destroyed due to avalanches last week. Picture of the petrol pump after avalanche is posted below. The damage however is not that bad as it was initially reported. I remember reading somewhere that the entire site was wiped out and the petrol no longer exists which is definitely not the case. It will I am sure be up and running again by the time the route opens.
Last year at this time, the snow clearing operation on Srinagar Leh highway was in full swing and by 15th, the entire stretch was declared open for civilian traffic. On Manali Leh route too, the clearing operation started in early March itself and by April 1st week, the road was open for traffic.
Situation this year however is entirely different. It continues to snow heavily all over Himalayas and more snow is expected. Opening of all roads and passes this year will definitely get delayed. As of now, in terms of Srinagar Leh route, do not expected it to open any earlier than late April. Rohtang Pass will probably not open by Mid May and Manali Leh highway in early June. This however is just an estimate for now and can get changed as the weather progresses.
Sir, Finally the gang is ready to visit Manali, leh. We need your suggestion for which month is best to enjoy the Leh, whether it is month of June(5days planning) or August(6days)? Some of my friends are telling like August chance of heavy rainfall is high and the rain makes road drive risky. So tell me your suggestions!!...
Bhai either go in June or September. The only problem with June will be the tourist rush otherwise both these months are equally good.
You are right. August will be Monsoon so chances of rain will remain present on Manali Leh Highway and Srinagar Leh highway.
The snow clearing work on Manali Leh highway is expected to begin from Manali side in another week. There is still warning of snowfalls in coming few days but if the weather held, BRO is hopeful that they will be able to start clearing snow from Gulaba onward by sometime next week.
Meanwhile, from the Lahaul Valley side, work will start in a day or two from Satingri toward Tandi and Sissu to connect the road with the Rohtang tunnel in the north portal. The tunnel can be used in emergency cases to transport locals from Lahaul to Kullu Valley. Similarly, BRO workforce and machinery is moving from Udaipur ahead toward Kolang to start clearing the snow towards Sach Pass.
