    Hi Vargis,

We have been going through your blog posts on Lahaul-Spiti & have found them to be of tremendous help! Thank you so much for the incredible effort that must have gone in, in putting these up!

My wife & I are planning a 15 day ride through the circuit that you have laid out in the blog, starting from the 12th of August; setting off from Shimla & winding up through Manali. And this on a trusty (& old!) Cast Iron Bullet. As I went through the blog, a few questions came to mind. Putting them up here. It would be great if you can let me know your thoughts on these:

    1. What is the weather we can expect (in terms of rain) through the circuit? There have been recent news reports of flash floods near Losar & heavy rains in other parts of the region, which are rather alarming.

    2. Given that we have a total of 14 days at hand, what would be an itinerary you would suggest? This is the first ride for my wife, and the idea is to keep long hauls on the saddle to a minimum while spending time seeing the places (based on your recommendations, we have definitely kept an extra day at Chitkul!)

Thank you so much, once again.

    Cheers,
    Sameer

    Hello Sameer Bhai,

Thank you so much for your appreciating words. I am glad that information posted was of use.

Yes, definitely expect some rain in the month of August. Monsoon is at full swing right now around Shimla, Kinnaur and Kullu valleys. Please prepare and pack accordingly.

Where are you starting from? You have 14 days from Shimla to Manali or 12? Keeping 2 days for journey to Shimla and return from Manali?

Thank you so much for your response Vargis! Its really very encouraging!

I am planning to set off from Chandigarh on Saturday, the 13th of August (heading to Shimla & there on onwards to Narkanda & the rest of the circuit) & reaching back to Chandigarh latest by Saturday, the 26th of August.

    A rough thought was:

    13th night at Narkanda
    14th night at Jeori
    15th night/16th night at Chitkul
    17th night at Nako
    18th/19th night at Tabo
    20th/21st night at Kaza
    22nd night at Chandrataal
    23rd night at Manali
    24th night at Chandigarh

    Two days as spare.

How does this sound to you?

Also, while i have done several rides on the Bullet myself, this will be the first one for my wife as pillion. And given the age of the bike (and my experience of the bike performance in the high altitude of Ladakh, from nearly a decade ago), the altitude and the overall condition of the roads, I'm a little nervous of how the bike will pull through, this time with a pillion on board! What has your experience of the availability of mechanics or small workshops on this route? Would you, by chance, have any phone numbers of mechanics i could connect with in case of an emergency? And on a related note, which cellphone network is dependable in the region (if any exists at all)?

    Looking forward to your response.

    Thanks again!

    Cheers,
    Sameer

Hello Sameer Bhai -So sorry for late response. I guess you are already on your way to Spiti now and I am too late in responding.
