    1. We are taking suv. Mg hector with engine capacity of 2000 cc.. But its not 4*4. So will it be enough.

2.is manali to kaza route is open till 8 th October

    3. If it snows in chandertaal or kunzum pass will our vehicle will pass smoothly or we need protection for our tyres from skidding
    .
    4. As we have been to leh. Nubra. pangong tsomori.. Can you please suggest best itienary if some places are similar to leh or we can avoid..a few places.like which are similar to leh . as we are short on time n have just 7 days

    5. Can you please suggest us best place to stay either its some homestay or camps.

    6. places where road conditions are terrible and we can hire some taxi or something to the places where we have to come back to same place after travelling. Or sightseeing . So that we can avoid driving and save our vehicle too...

    7. As its Oct so where should be I worried about water crossings and how should I plan about getting through if there are any big...ones

    Hello Naveen Bhai,

    1. Yes
    2. Depends on weather but 90% chances are that it will be open
    3. It should pass easily unless the weather turns really extreme suddenly and it snows a lot. In that case, do not travel and wait it out for a couple of days.
    4. 7 days from where?
    5. Sorry I do not have any recommendations in terms of hotels. Just reach your destination, look for a place u like, negotiate and check in.
    6. As long as you have good driving experience, you do not need a driver. You do not even need to.
    7. Between Kaza to Manali but there won't be many terrible crossings in October.

    1. Chandigarh to Chitkul - can camp here
    2. Chandigarh to Nako - can camp here
    3. Nako to Kaza. Take the diversion towards Pin Valley and cover that as well on the way
    4. Kaza to nearby villages (Kibber Komik) and Kaza
    5. Kaza to Chandratal - can camp here
    6. Chandratal - Manali
    7. Manali Chandigarh

Except for one crossing between Batal and Chattru. about a 25 degree slope down towards Chattru, with 18 inch boulders and it is a curve/bend (not a straight line descent) and it leads straight into a water crossing. I did the circuit two weeks ago, and I saw two Innovas and a Duster (all were 2WDs, neither of which had proper slip diffs) being winched out by one stranger-friendly Thar.
You should be fine if you are going from Shimla because you will get the down-slope, but if you are entering from Manali, on that ONE uphill crossing, you just might have to wait for a 4x4 to pass and winch you out. One of Innovas even had his poor rear wheels burnt out, like molten pitch on the rocks.

Vargis' blog is my go-to place for any plans to the Himalayas. Better than google IMO.
Nevertheless, I can tell you a thing or two from my recent trip.
    1. I pitched camp in Shilon-bagh, a little further away on a detour from Kufri (day 1). Then I pitched camp in a friendly local's yard in Chitkul (Day 2). Then in a monastery parking lot in Nako (Day 3). Then behind a guest house in Langza, a detour from Kaza (Day 4). The same again in Kibber (Day5). So far I camped for free. Paid 200 for a pitch in Chandratal (Day 6). And then in Gulaba before Manali, again for free (Day 7).
    2. You can also camp in the Takcha grounds before Chandratal.
    3. Do take the road from Kibber to Chandratal VIA THE CHICHUM BRIDGE. It is significantly more pretty than the main route.
    4. Tabo monastery is on the way from Nako to Kaza. It is functional since 996 AD, and was opened for public viewing a few years ago. It is India's oldest continually functioning Monastery. The murals in the inner sanctum are more than 1000 years old. I met this other bunch of Australian motorcyclists who I tagged along with, to the Tabo monastery. Until then I had not heard about it. Turns out, in '84, one of them was the chief architect of some new buildings and guest houses that were built in '84. Lucky me!
    5. Do not forget that in the mid Oct temperatures, pitching camp might come across as a hassle if not a struggle at good altitudes. But then again, I was on two wheels so I was more tired than what I would have been in a car.

As always, you will get the same amount of respect/friendliness back from the locals as much as you give unto them. I exchanged some good whiskey for firewood on some of my nights. You do not have to be that friendly, but yea, keep an open mind, and be a traveler, not a tourist.
