    Hello Vargis

I´m Antonio from Spain, I will go to Delhi on August 24th and then I´ll take a bus to Chandigargh.
The trip plan that I have in mind is travel by bicycle the following route:

Chandigargh - Shimla - Kinnaur Valley - Spiti Valley (without going through Manali) - Leh - Kargil - Srinagar

And finally by bus to Amritsar and come back to Delhi, where I´ll take the plane to Spain on September 24th.

The question is do I need some inner line permits although on a bicycle and which?

    Thanks

Hi Antonio, Yes you will need the permit from Shimla or Reckongn Peo to enter Kaza (Spiti valley) and then again at Leh to enter the other areas of Ladakh if you wish to. I have explained both these permits at the links below.

    Thanks Vargis

I understand that the Rohtang Pass is only if you go from Manali to Leh, if I go from Spity Valley to Leh it´s no neccesary.
In Leh I´ll obtain the PAP for Khardung La.
Do I need another PAP for Kargil in the route to Srinagar?

    Hi Antonio,

    1. Rohtang permit is not needed if you are going from Spiti to Leh. You only need it while coming from Manali side.
    2. You do not need PAP for just Khardung La. You only need it if you plan to cross it over and enter Nubra Valley.
    3. No permit is needed for traveling from Srinagar to Leh via Kargil.

    Hi again Vargis

I have a last question for you. What do you think is better: start in Chandigargh and continue through Kinnaur, Spiti, Leh and end up in Srinagar or do it the other way, start in Srinagar and end up in Chandigargh. I say it for the monsoon rains. I start riding a bike on August 24 and finish on September 24.

    Hi Antonio,

It doesn't really matter to be honest because both the ways are equally fine. I personally would have preferred to start from Srinagar and end at Spiti. This way, by the tiime I arrive at Spiti and Kinnaur, monsoon would be long gone. It is a greater risk in these areas than Srinagar and Ladakh.

    Hi Vargis

Yes, I think there will still be rain in the Kinnaur Valley between the end of August and the beginning of September. In this case, starting in Srinagar and continuing through Leh, where I can get the inner line permit for the Spiti Valley, maybe in Leh? Starting in the Kinnaur valley I could get it in Reckong Peo.

    Thanks
    Antonio.

For Spiti, you can get the permit from Keylong. Or better yet, you can reach Kaza and get the permit in Kaza itself.
