    Hi Vargis,

Firstly, thank you for setting up an amazing community. No other website is as comprehensive as yours when it comes to Ladakh and Spiti. I was hoping to explore Spiti in the second week of October (starting 7th/8th). I do have a load of questions, apologies if they have been asked elsewhere on this forum, I will try to remove those if I find any.

I don't want to do the full Spiti Circuit as I have only a week in hand. I would like to take the Manali route, drive till Kaza and take the same way back (bad idea?). Places I would like to cover:
    1. Chandra taal
    2. Batal
    3. Kunzum La
    4. Kaza
    5. Key Gompa
    6. Kibber
    7. Rangrik

I would like to cover these places within 4-5 days along this path: Manali-Chandrataal-Rangrik-Kaza-Manali

We're four people and would like to drive through half of the circuit and would like to keep our expenses moderate.

    My Questions:
    1. Is October second week a bad time to do Spiti?
    2. Does the half circuit in 4-5 days make for a good ride? Will I miss out on too many things?
    3. How bad are the roads and temperature in October?
    4. How difficult is it to get the permit for crossing Rohtang during this period?

Things we'd like to do but need your advise given the lack of time and less-than ideal road conditions:
    - Camp at Chandra Taal camping site overnight
    - Stay over at Kaza
    - Not drive too much in a single day, but divide the distance equally across multiple days

    Few more questions:
    - What places in the valley can we halt at apart from Kaza and Chandra Taal camping site?
    - Is driving with a pillion a bad idea?
    - What gear would you recommend?

I do realize this is not the ideal time to go and the lack of time at my hands adds to the disadvantage. I also understand that the rapid ascent might invite an AMS early on. But, however, given all that what would you recommend?

    Thanks a lot,
Looking forward to know your opinions.

Hello Pratik Bhai - Apologies for delayed response and thank you for your encouraging words, I really appreciate it.

    Coming to your questions,

    1. No, your timing is OK. Route will remain open at this time.
    2. No 5 days for half the circuit is sufficient. Do you mean 5 days from and to Manali? Where are you traveling from?
    3. Road conditions are always bad in Spiti but doing it in October first week will at least reduce the hassle of Monsoon.
    4. It is not really that difficult.

Yes you can camp at Chandratal at this time. Let me know how many days you have in hand and I can suggest how you can travel.

You can stay at Batal PWD guest house or Chadar tent and also at Losar.
Driving with Pillion depends on the motorcycle. Which one do you have?
No specific gear as such. I have never used any. Such ride slow and carefully and you will be OK.

    Thanks for responding Vargis Bhai.
I have a total of 7 days from Delhi, I want to travel via the Manali route and would also like to spend a day in Manali ( I guess this can be used to get the permit?)

Pratik Bhai, Where are you starting from?

Journey can be in the following manner,

    1. Reach Manali
    2. Stay at Manali, arrange permit
    3. Manali to Kaza (start early from Manali)
    4. Kaza to Ki, Kibber, Komik, Hikkim, Langza to Kaza
    5. Kaza to Chandratal
    6. Chandratal to Manali
    7. Manali to Home
