Sharing a recent pic of Sonamarg that a friend sent.
Awesome !!! looks like a drone shot. Can we use them legally.
No we cannot actually but people still do nonetheless. A lot of permissions are required before you can fly a drone and specially in a place like Kashmir.
We area group of 15 people planning to visit Srinagar and then to Leh by road from 15th May to 25 May 2019 please suggest whether the Srinagar Leh road will open by then or not.
Hi Rutika - In all probability, yes it will be open by then.
Sharing a recent picture of the highway just after Srinagar and the snow clearing work in progress.
The road right now is only open till Gagangir. The snow this year has been way more than expected and the snowfall still continues. Even Sonamarg was declared closed for tourists several weeks earlier than usual. The way the weather is trending right now, do not expect Srinagar Leh Highway to reopen any sooner than early May. Even Sonamarg right now is expected to remain closed well into April.
Snow so far has been far too great than previous years and more is expected. As per the weather forecast, entire Kashmir region is to experience heavy amounts of snow in the next coming week.
Sharing a recent picture of Leh to Kargil highway that a friend traveled on recently. The picture was clicked at the of Fotula Pass. Contrary to common belief, the road from Leh to Kargil actually remains open throughout the year barring few occasions when extreme weather and too much snow can block it temporarily.
The recent blast that killed 42 CRPF man has the entire valley and the country on the edge right now. How it is going to affect the opening of the road and the tourist season is something that only time will tell. A curfew has been imposed in several places. If you were planning to visit Kashmir anytime soon, then I would strongly recommend that you put your plans on hold for a while and wait for the tension to ease down.
