Aparna Madam, My BEST half and I will be ENJOYING Leh Ladakh during Sep 2018 for 10 days max. I have prepared the itinerary and sending to vargis khan for suggestions. once the itinerary is finalised i will post it in the road raga forum and you can decide upon that, but, ours is on 1st week of Sept. FYI : We are yet to purchase flight tickets. We are in 40s age from Chennai and pure veg, preferring Home Stays and Tourist Shared SUVs for our Trip via Srinagar route. Regards Sundar

    Hi Mr.Sunder,

Thanks for showing interest in our travel plan. I had been to Ladakh 2 years back, and at that time also we shared our cost (SUV, Meal sometime and stays) with a couple. That is the best thing for travelling economically. We will also prefer home stays (home stays in leh are as good as hotels), we are non-vegetarian, but that’s not an issue as we will not get many options for meal. We survived majorly on parathas and daal chawal last time. You check and confirm the itinerary and then let us know, we are flexible for itinerary. But sadly we are not flexible with dates as we have already purchased tickets to and fro, 13 we are coming to Srinagar in the morning and 23rd we are flying back to Mumbai.

If you are still interested please mail me on viraparna@gmail.com

Thankyou Aparna Madam for the quick response. It would be a nice knowledgeable company for us, as you people have already experienced ladakh. Alas, my plan is on the 1st week of Sept only and the itineraries are to be finalised and yet to be posted in the forum for like minded people. The catch is ladakh festival is happening on 1 - 15 sept. 1st sun Sep 2 - Polo Archery Competitions, Cultural Dances and Sep 9 sun - Ladakh Marathon. My itinerary preparations are based on similar minute imp relevant info which we would not like to miss to understand the essence of ladakh. We are actually missing your good companionship. In case, if we purchase flight tickets for mid-sept then we would like to join with you to enjoy ladakh. Having said that, if possible, you can also look out for the options of advancing your pre-booked tickets to enjoy the ladakh festival ( irrespective of our companionship ). Already sent my plans to Vargis Bhai. Once it get finalised, it will be posted in the forum so pl wait to have an idea of my 3 itineraries. Best Wishes. Happy and Safe Journey. # Striving for Litter free Ladakh and Water conservation
    warm regards

Another thing i forgot to inform you is, if you people are really interested on REAL than filmy, then i advise you to visit Phyang village (20kms) away from Nimmoo ( after river rafting ) to watch the REAL HERO " SONAM WANGCHUK " ( ORIGINAL PHUNGDU - 3 IDIOTS ) and his Ice Stupas (if not melted ?! ) on the buffer day. Another thing is that 27km 2 hr river rafting from Phey ( near Thiksey ) to Nimoo ( other side of Leh ) costs around Rs.2000 per person. Pl have these things in your mind for a better planning. cheers # Meticulous Madrasi
Sorry Aparna, Ladakh Festival happens on 25th sept to 28th sept this year. if you are interested to attend festival and if possible then postpone your tickets accordingly as you wish. i have to re-alter all my itinerary syncing / finishing ladakh trip with the festival. so, we may also be there in mid-sept. will let you know once i finalise the itinerary. thanks sundar

Thanks a lot for the interesting information. We will surely keep in mind the cost and other things in mind for river rafting. We have not done it before so we didn't know much about it (about cost, starting and end point, where to book etc.) I need to dig more for info about it. If you have more information on it please share. Also thanks for sharing about Ladakh Festival, but unfortunately we cannot make it for it as we have planned leaves accordingly (we have Ganesh Festival Holiday). But if by any chance you happen to plan for the given dates (13-21 Sept) and enjoy ladakh festival by staying for some more days then you are welcome to join us.
Also one advise from my side is plan early and book flights asap. The flight cost increases quickly.
We will visit REAL HERO surely SONAM WANGCHUK for sure.
One more thing I would like to know that are you a travel freak and travels vividly?

    Hi (the same Viraparna ),
read your queries. if you had been to tso moriri earlier and also covered thiksey, drang school etc in last trip you can opt for river rafting on the buffer day. even while coming back from pangong tso ( skipping thiksey, school, stok etc., ) and if you have enough time you can plan the indus rafting in the evening but pl work out on this with the driver accordingly with the prior hand info before venturing into it. will let you know if more details on river rafting in case if i come across. Also, Kargil - Batalik - Dah - Hanoo - Chiktan route is under ILP covered so you need your ILP at Srinagar / Kargil before visiting Dah. Hanoo is little FAR OFF from the Main route ( more dist and more time ). you cannot do Leh-turtuk - Leh in 1 buffer day ( which is hectic and you cannot the enjoy the Scenic Balti route, Balti people and their culture. Turtuk can be squeezed as a day trip from diskit and it is worth for a day trip. so you can plan it accordingly with a stay at diskit / hunder. Thanks for the query ( it gives me the opportunity to blow my own trumpet hahahaha...... jokes apart ) yeah i am a passionate traveller and NOT definitely the show-off kind people " been there done that " posting pics in social sites. there is a thin diff bet traveller and a tourister you know. we would like to enjoy the real essence of travel, i mean whatever happens during the trip is all good for us and enjoying lively the magical moments during travel, in short transforming ourselves as a LADAKHI for 10-15 days. Also, visiting Phyang village to see Ice stupas in sept is a tricky affair as it would have melted and may be you can see a budding level ice stupa. check with locals at Nimmoo and your driver for its accessibility and ensure whether it is a worthy visit to meet wangchuk sir ( his availability ?? ). Thanks for the advice on flight ticket bookings, yeah have to do it soon once the itinerary fianlised. here is a trick for you : always check flight tickets in google INCOGNITO MODE else both Google Browser and the dirty business travel portal people ( MMT, cleartrip etc.,) comes to know your plan and steadily show increased airfare thereby creating a fake demand price rise. pl avoid those scamster people and also travel agency. they use to charge 10-15% as commission looting from your pocket without your knowledge. as vargis bhai said, dont prebook your stay. needless to teach the ladies how to bargain/negotiate with hotel people when you are physically at the hotel. ideal time to have the Minimum air fare is 70 days (10 weeks -- approx the period bet 8 to 12 weeks prior your travel, you can see the correct wave pattern of airfare changes) before your travel is the general thumbrule. i know what is popping in your mind , Arrey...how come this guy knows all these things that too not from a travel back ground (Cent Govt Empl) ? hahaha... I m an Arm Chair Travel Quiz winner every year here at Chennai...... Now you got your doubts cleared. Coming back, yeah would like to join with you in mid-sept if possible. understood--- utilising ganesh chaturthi holdiays (mumbai people). point noted. let me know once my itinerary finalised and posted in forum. time for me to a re-do all again and thats my fav passionate thing you know ( preparing itineraries)...enough time window for me to book min air fare tickets though booking early is a wise option thanks for that..... have to wait a lot before finalising my tickets as i need ALL INFO PRIOR HAND as i cannot revert it once the tickets been booked... had i booked for sep 1-15 i would have missed the ladakhi festival.... so, hope you got my point ......Cheers to the same old aparna. hi aparna, yes you need ILP at srinagar / kargil before visiting Dah hanoo Chiktan villages. also you need ILP to visit Turtuk and Tyashi (beyond turtuk). as you rightly said, you can do 1 DAY TIME trip to turtuk from diskit instead the buffer day and do river rafting in the evening itself while coming back from pangong tso to leh thereby utilising the time and planning properly ie., covering both turtuk on buffer day and enjoying river rafting on D7/D8 itself. if you do not want a hectic trip, then you can do river rafting on buffer day and from nimoo you can visit phyang village for meeting wangchuk sir and his ice stupas on the buffer day. in that case, i guess you have to skip turtuk. so decide what you want and plan accordingly. my opinion is go for turtuk village visit its museum, baltic scenery enroute, baltic people and you can enjoy with those cherubic kids wanting chocolates from you ( as budding ice stupas, meeting wangchuk sir ( his availability), access to phyang village etc is a tricky thing to manage beyond your control/plan. ) hope you got what im conveying here. FYI: though turtuk is 90 kms from diskit but it is at lower altitude much similar to kargil weather on the other side of the mountain passes. apart from museum and mingling with baltic people there is nothing much of a touristy affair. usually cars wont go into the turtuk village ( chk with your driver) which is basically divided into 3 parts connected via small bridges so you have to roam around to have a baltic experience in the day time. pl contact Ashoor Guest House people on the Main road entrance itself of turtuk village for your lunch and for roaming into the village. they will help you out with turtuk history and emphatic war winning stories of Indian Army in 1971 thus turtuk became a part of Indian territory. hope this info suffice your query. i do not want to spoil your interest to visit turtuk by leaking all info here itself. enjoy your visit. cheers madrasi

read everywhere as BALTI people not baltiC people ( regretting for the typo) balti is baltistan people Balti valley is Gilgit, Skardu enroute Karakoram range which is under PoK ( beyond Indian territory ) so you can visit upto Tyashi (beyond turtuk) with ILP but better stick to turtuk village visit to experience the Balti culture.

Whoo! Wow! I am impressed. I am also a passionate traveller in my own sense. And preparing for travel is also my passion. I have a chance to travel with you both or not but certainly I got a treasure of knowledge, especially ‘incognito mode’ trick. I always wondered why fares slowly increases on travel websites once we start searching. Thanks a ton for that.
So according to your suggestion I have re-planned roughly as below

13 Sep Srinagar (ILP for Hanoo and sites if possi)
    14 Sep Sri - Kargil
15 Sep Kargil - Dha (Hanoo if possible)
    16 Sep Dha - Kargil-Lamayuru & other places like Magnetic hill/moonland etc - Leh
17 Sep Leh Acclimatisation & ILP
    18 Sep Leh-Khardungla-Diskit-Hunder - Turtuk (if Possi)
    19 Sep Hunder-Turtuk-Pangong
    20 Sep Pangong-River Rafting-Leh
    21 Sep Flight to Mum

By mistake I wrote 23rd return in my first reply, its 21st. I am replying from office,so doing it covertly ;)
Hope we will meet you in Ladakh Mr. Madrasi.
