Hi everyone,

We are 3 friends travelling to Leh soon. We are on a budget and right now, unable to find more people to join us to share the high taxi costs with. So we were planning the following itinerary using public transport as per the bus info provided on the website. Wanted to know whether it's feasible or not.

Aug 18 - Finish trek in Kashmir (we would have reached a max altitude of 13,500 ft during this trek and therefore already acclimatized for Leh) and reach Srinagar by 8 PM.
Aug 19 - Take shared taxi from Srinagar bus stand at 7 AM and reach Leh by 5 PM, cost 2k per person. (As per a taxi driver we spoke to on the phone). We would not get time to do an RT PCR test at Srinagar as per this itinerary and would have to cross our fingers and hope for a negative RAT when entering Leh.
Aug 20 - Take early morning bus to Tso Moriri.
Aug 21 - Return back to Leh.
Aug 22 (Sunday) - Take early morning bus to Pangong Lake.
Aug 23 - Return to Leh.
Aug 24 (Tuesday) - Take bus to Diskit (I heard this bus has been discontinued now, in which case take a shared taxi). Go to Hunder for camel ride and if possible overnight stay at Turtuk? (not sure if we will get time for all this, please do tell)
Aug 25 - return to Leh.
Aug 26 - Catch flight from Leh.

Would this work? I know it's a little intense but we wouldn't mind. :) Or if there's a way we can do a packaged tour sharing the costs with few more people, we would be fine with that as well. Please let us know. Thanks!

It is doable as long as you have someone to drop you in Leh the same day from Srinagar.

Do it the other way around though. Go first to Diskit. There, try to find a shared cab or hitchhike with someone to go straight to Pangong via Shyok. If that worked, it will save you a day. If not, come back to Leh, then go to Pangong.

Thanks for your reply. Will try as you said. Any idea how strict they are about checking the RT PCR test at Leh? If we go without one from Srinagar, will they just do the RAT and let us go if we are negative? Also, do you have any recommendation on a nice budget hotel/homestay close to the Leh bus stand? Thanks!

They are very serious about the RTPCR test Bhai. Better to get it done in Srinagar, will save you any last-minute hassle or delays.

You can try Padma Guest House on Fort road. The last number I have for them is +91 94191 78663
