Twenty-one people stranded near the 3978-metre high Rohtang pass were rescued in a late-night operation on Thursday by a team of Border Roads Organisation (BRO) amid heavy snowfall, officials said on Friday. The Pass is now officially closed and vehicles are not allowed beyond Gulaba Check post.

Sharing a few pictures of snowfall around Manali and Solang Valley. The amount of snow on the road increases as you move further towards Rohtang top.

The entire Himalayan region is receiving a lot of snow this year. Rohtang top is buried under several feet of snow right now and more is expected in the coming months. The road beyond Gulaba is completed blocked. As a matter of fact, there is snow even on the road between Manali and Gulaba.

It is highly unlikely that Rohtang Pass will open before mid to late April in 2020. It all depends on the weather though. Last year, the opening date got pushed to May actually and if the spell of snow continues the way it is going right now, Rohtang may even remain closed until early May.

If you want to visit Manali to see snow, now is the right time. There is a lot of snow in Solang Valley and if you were in luck, you may even catch a live snowfall.
