Hello Road Ragas people,

I (along with my wife and a 7 year old son) am planning to do 'Dhule - Ratlam - Jaipur - Pathankot - Srinagar - Kargil - Zanskar Valley - (Kargil) - Leh - Diskit- Pangsong Lake - Hanle - Chunthang - Karu - Mahe - Baralacha La Pass - Rohtang Pass - Manali - Dhule'

I will using my own car (Tata Nexon Automictic).

I wanted to know if roads are open to complete the entire circuit, and weather-wise can tourists visit in August / September -2021. Which time will be more suitable: shall I start in late August or later in mid-September. I can give upto 30 days to complete above route. will this be enough?

Please see my itinerary as attached.

Thanks for your attention. I am looking forward to your reply.

Regards,

Hi Sumeet,

Plan your journey towards the second week of September. August is not a good time to go and even right now, there are monsoon warnings being issued on Manali Leh route.

Your itinerary is doable except for a few places. Plan like this

Srinagar Kargil
Kargil to Rangdum
Rangdum to Padum
Padum
Padum to Kargil / Lamayuru
Lamayuru to Leh
Leh
Leh
Leh to Turtuk
Turtuk to Diskit / Panamik
Panamik to Pangong Lake via Shyok
Pangong Lake to Hanle
Hanle to Karzok (Tso Moriri)
Karzok to Chumathang
Chumathang to Jispa
Jispa to Manali via Rohtang

Hello Vargis,

Thanks for your time and inputs. I have revised my itinerary as per your suggestions (attached). And we planned to stared our trip from Aurangabad on 12 Sep 2021. I have following questions:

Q1: Is there any place (location) in my itinerary for which I would need special permit? I have some doubt related to Hanle.
Q2: I will be carrying 20 liters petrol in cans. Will this be sufficient?
Q3: By any change i can hire petrol cans at Leh? I would prefer not to carry them from Aurangabad.
Q4: Will petrol be available on following routes
A] Kargil - Rangum - Padum
B] Leh - Turkut - Panamik - Diskit
C] Karu - Pangsong Lake - Hanle - Tso Moriri - Chunthang - Karu

Thanks again.

Regards,

Hi Sumeet - You will need the regular Inner Line Permit for all the places in Ladakh, no other special permits are needed.

It will be tough to rent petrol cans in Ladakh. About your questions on fuel, please take a look at this article. Secondly, once you leave Leh, you are not coming back, you will just circle straight to Manali so cannot actually return the cans.
